365 Black Eyed Peas

Southerners in the U.S., of which I am not, have a tradition of gaining good luck by eating black eyed peas on New Years.

I've heard the goal is to consume 365 of the beans -- this to ensure you have enough luck for every day of the year ahead.

Hoppin Johns is the preferred preparation of the peas. In our house, we take our time earning our good luck and spread the pea eating over the course of some days. Making a black eyed peas hummus helps with those efforts!
Black Eyed Peas Hummus

11 oz steamed black eyed peas
Juice and zest of one lemon
1/4 Cup Tahini
4 Tablespoons water
1 Tablespoon, chopped, fresh mint leaves
1 Tablespoon, chopped, fresh chives
2 Tablespoons, chopped, fresh Italian parsley
1 whole, peeled garlic clove
Salt to taste
Pinch of cayenne pepper

Add all ingredients to food processor bowl. Puree until smooth. Adjust seasoning as needed. Enjoy!
